Pfäffikon SZ is a small Schwyz town on the Seedamm between Lake Zurich and the Obersee, about 35–45 min from Zurich Hbf on the S-Bahn. It is a business and shopping stop, not a sightseeing town: the draw is the Seedamm walk, the Ufenau island, the Alpamare water park and the Seedamm Center mall. Hotel choice is thin, so most travellers sleep in Zurich or Rapperswil and come for a half-day. Do not confuse it with Pfäffikon ZH, a different town in canton Zurich.

Getting around

The town is small: walk or cycle. Churerstrasse is the main divider, with the station in the centre and the lakeshore a few minutes west. Local buses and the Zurich S-Bahn (S2, S5, S8) run on ZVV tickets, so one valid ZVV or SBB ticket covers train and bus. Seedamm Center and Alpamare sit next to the A3 motorway junction, about 20–25 min on foot from the station.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe. The real risks are commuter traffic on Churerstrasse, cold water at the unguarded Strandbad, and quiet weekend evenings when bars close early.
  • Pfäffikon SZ (Schwyz) and Pfäffikon ZH (canton Zurich) are different towns: check the canton on your ticket and booking.
  • The A3 and Churerstrasse clog at commuter rush hour; allow 15–20 min extra by road in the morning and evening.
  • The Schindellegi A3 junction is one-way: entry only toward Chur, exit only from Zurich.
  • The lakeside Strandbad has no lifeguards; the lake is cold well into June.
  • Weekdays are busy with business travellers, weekends are very quiet: some restaurants and bars keep short hours.
