Rapperswil sits at the point where Lake Zurich narrows into the Obersee, 36–40 minutes by S-Bahn from Zurich. Getting around

The centre is compact and walkable in 15 minutes end to end. Buses cover Jona and the outskirts; the station is on Untere Bahnhofstrasse. Bikes and e-bikes can be rented in town. Boats of the Lake Zurich navigation company (ZSG) call at the harbour, with a reduced winter timetable.

Safety

Very safe. The real risks are slippery boardwalk planks on the wooden bridge in rain, fast cyclists on the lakefront path, and swimming in the lake where no lifeguard is posted.
  • Knie's Kinderzoo is seasonal, roughly March to October: check dates before you build a day around it.
  • Boats and the Voralpen-Express run on limited winter schedules; check the operator timetable the day before.
