North Gyeongsang is South Korea's history province: Gyeongju was the Silla capital for close to a thousand years, Andong keeps the Confucian villages and academies, and the mountains and the east coast sit behind them. The two anchor towns are about 1 h 40 apart by bus or train, so pick one bed and day-trip the other rather than moving twice. Daegu (TAE) is the airport and a major KTX hub, but KTX also stops at Singyeongju and Gimcheon; Pohang is the coast and the ferry to Ulleungdo.

Gyeongju's sights are spread over a wide area with thin bus service — without a bike, taxi or car you lose hours.
Hahoe Folk Village is a working village, not a set; keep noise down and stay on the paths.
Seokguram sits on a mountain road above Bulguksa; the last bus down is early evening.

Inland basin (Gyeongju, Andong, Daegu): Daegu and the basins run several degrees hotter than the coast in July–August; monsoon rain lands late June to July, and typhoons can reach the east coast in August–September.
East coast (Pohang): Milder winters and cooler summers than the interior; sea fog and wind are the trade-off.

April and October–early November are the typical choices, matching the country's spring and autumn windows; cherry blossom and autumn colour fill Gyeongju beds at those times, but the province is large and the coast runs milder than the basins.
