The Miami and Scioto basins are the rural southwest of Ohio wrapped around Dayton: river valleys, reservoir state parks, small county-seat towns and the Hopewell mounds at Chillicothe. Dayton is the only real city base and the only place with an airport and frequent transit; everything else is a car trip of 30–90 minutes. Two nights covers Dayton's museums and one park; three to four nights lets you add Chillicothe or a lake.
