Ohio is three city clusters about 2 hours apart by car on I-71: Cleveland and the Lake Erie shore, Columbus in the centre, Cincinnati in the southwest. Trains are thin and often arrive at night, so pick one or two bases and drive the legs. Add a Lake Erie island or a Hocking Hills stop only if you have a spare day.
