Malkangiri is the southernmost district headquarters of Odisha, set in the Dandakaranya plains. It offers a few nature-oriented sights — a lake, a temple and two hydroelectric plants — but the area is known for ongoing Naxalite activity. Most travellers use it as a transit point between Odisha and Chhattisgarh rather than a destination.
