Far North Queensland is 1,200 km of coast from Cardwell to the Torres Strait, but almost every first trip runs the same 150 km: Cairns, the reef, the rainforest and the Atherton Tablelands. Cape York roads close for roughly four to five months of the wet season; do not plan it for December to March.
Crocodile and stinger rules are not advisory decoration: swimming in the wrong creek or beach is the main way visitors get hurt here.
