3. Book the long-haul leg. Direct flights to Addis are commonly available from the Gulf and Europe, with connections from North America, Asia and Australia; routes and carriers change, so check current schedules before booking.
4. Add the domestic leg. Ethiopian Airlines runs the domestic network from Bole to southern and eastern fields; book early in peak season. The historic north — Lalibela, Gondar, Axum and the Simien — is under advice against all travel from the UK and US, and flights to Lalibela were suspended on 24 September 2026; leave it out until that changes.
5. Plan the airport transfer. Bole is 6–8 km from central Addis. Use a metered taxi, a ride-hailing app or a hotel pickup; agree the fare before you get in if there is no meter. Allow 20–40 minutes in traffic (check).
