Getting around
The metro is the backbone: it links the airport, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, the creek area and the Marina, and it is air-conditioned, which matters for most of the year. You need a Nol card to ride; buy one at a station and top it up. Fares are distance-based and cheap by Western standards (check).
Taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps, especially for the Marina, JBR and desert pickups. Metered taxis are plentiful at malls and stations. The abra across the creek costs a few dirhams and is the fastest, cheapest way between Bur Dubai and Deira.
