Dubai itinerary: 1, 2 and 3 days

Pick by how much you want to walk and how many ticketed sights you are willing to book ahead. One day covers the headline sights only if you stay in one area; two days splits old and new Dubai; three days adds either the desert or Abu Dhabi.

Start early, before 10:00, in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood: narrow lanes, wind-tower houses and the Etihad Museum and Al Shindagha area nearby. Walk, then cross the Creek by abra, the small wooden boat, and land in Deira for the gold and spice souks. This is the cheapest and most walkable half of the city.

Finish with dinner by the Creek. In summer, do the same route after sunset instead; midday heat makes the lanes unpleasant and the souks quieter but hotter.

Book Burj Khalifa At the Top for just before sunset so you see the city in daylight and after dark. The Dubai Fountain runs every 30 minutes in the evening, right outside Dubai Mall, so time your exit for one of the shows. Both are in Downtown, a short metro ride from most hotels.

Move to Dubai Marina and JBR for the evening: walk the waterfront, eat, and take the tram or metro back. If you would rather see the Museum of the Future, put it in the morning and shift the Burj Khalifa slot later.

Two good options. A desert evening from Dubai covers dunes, a camp dinner and a pickup from your hotel; most tours leave in the afternoon and return late. Alternatively, Abu Dhabi is a long day: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Qasr Al Watan, reached by bus, taxi or a booked transfer.

If you have a third night, keep the desert for the evening before an early flight and Abu Dhabi for a full day. Do not try to do both on the same day.

Dubai is not a cheap city, but the transport line stays low if you use the metro and abra. The big variables are observation decks, desert tours and taxis. All figures are 2026 estimates; check current prices when you book.

Book Burj Khalifa and any desert tour before you land; sunset slots and weekend evenings sell out. Use the metro for Downtown, Marina and the airport line, and taxis or ride-hailing for the Creek and souks where stations are further apart.

Dress modestly in souks, mosques and older districts, and read the local rules on alcohol and public behaviour before you land; they are enforced. In June to September, put an indoor block in the middle of every day and save walking for early morning and evening.
