Xigang, Dalian: neighborhood guide

Xigang is the smallest of Dalian's four central districts and covers the western half of the city centre. It holds most of the municipal government, so the middle of the district is offices, squares and main roads rather than sights. People's Square is the anchor: a large open space with grass, fountains and government buildings, some in old Russian style, with a fountain show in the evening (around 20:00, check) when locals gather to dance.

The southern half is the part visitors use. The Forest Zoo sits in the hills, and Fujiazhuang Beach gives access to the coast without leaving the city.
