  • India ↗Apply for the e-visa only on the official government portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in); lookalike sites charge extra. Check the current rules, fees and how far ahead to apply.

Adoor is a mid-sized market town in Kerala's Central Travancore belt, on the Kottayam–Thiruvananthapuram road about 100 km from the state capital. It is not a sightseeing town: the draw is a cluster of old Devi and Mahadevar temples within 10 km, a busy KSRTC bus stand that reaches most of Kerala, and cheap, plain lodging. Most travellers pass through on the way to Pathanamthitta, the backwater belt or the Sabarimala pilgrimage route; a single night is enough to see the main temple and eat well.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

The town is small enough to walk: the government bus stand to the private bus stand is about 10 minutes on foot, and Parthasarathy Temple is 2 minutes from the government stand. Auto-rickshaws wait at the Central Bus Stand; expect a minimum charge of about ₹10 and roughly ₹8 per km by day, ₹10 per km at night (2026 estimate, check the meter or agree the fare first). KSRTC and private buses run to Kayamkulam, Kottarakkara, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kollam and Ernakulam; a KSRTC Scania service also runs to Bengaluru.

Watch out

Safety

Adoor is a quiet, low-crime town and the main risks are practical: monsoon flooding and potholes, unlit roads after dark, and auto-rickshaw fares that need agreeing first. Solo women travellers report few problems in the centre; keep to lit streets at night.
  • Temple dress codes: men remove shirts at some shrines, women cover shoulders and knees; ask before entering.
  • Some temples restrict non-Hindu visitors to certain areas — follow the posted rules rather than arguing.
  • Auto-rickshaw drivers may quote a flat tourist fare; agree the price or insist on the meter before you get in.
  • Monsoon roads flood and buses run late from June to August.
  • Alcohol is sold through bars and Kerala's state outlets, not in general shops; dry days apply on some public holidays.

Not a trip line yet

This is a basic guide: no airport-to-bed contract, walking clusters or day plans are published for Adoor. Airport, fare and schedule details are unverified; check the operators before you fly.

  4. Cost per day in 3 bands

Coming as the guide grows

  1. Airport-to-bed contract for COK and TRV: last bus and train times field-checked, taxi fallback, overnight rung.
  2. Three walking clusters with rescue anchors: bus stands and Central Junction, the temple and market core, the Parakode road.
  3. Place pages with verified hours (Parthasarathy Temple, Sree Moolam Market, Ezhamkulam Devi Temple) and eat pages with last orders.
  4. Festival-date fixtures (Kumbhabharani at Ezhamkulam, temple festival calendars) so gates A–D can go green.
