Zurich in June: what to expect

June is the start of Zurich's warm half-year. Expect mild, changeable days: mornings often clear, cloud building through the afternoon, and short showers or thunderstorms rather than all-day rain. Mountain options such as the Bernese Highlands and Graubünden need a longer day or an overnight — high trails may still have snow in early June.

Pack for a mild, changeable summer with a real chance of rain. Layers work better than a heavy coat: a T-shirt and light trousers for the day, a thin fleece or sweater for evenings and mountain trips, and a compact waterproof shell that fits in a day bag.

Bring comfortable walking shoes — Zurich is a walking city and cobbles are hard on thin soles. Add sunglasses, sunscreen (UV is strong by June), a refillable water bottle for the city's fountains, and swimwear if you plan to use the lake or river baths. May is quieter and cheaper but cooler, and many mountain lifts are closed for maintenance.
