Western Switzerland is the French-speaking arc of the country: Lake Geneva's north shore, the Jura watch towns and the Fribourg Alps. Trains link the whole arc in 30–90 minutes, so one base beats hotel-hopping. Sleep in Lausanne for the middle of the region and lake boats, in Geneva for flights and the UN quarter, in Neuchâtel or Fribourg for a quieter, cheaper base. The Jura towns and Gruyères are day-trips, not overnight stops.
