Romantic things to do in Ubud

Ubud rewards couples who split the day in two: an early outdoor block before the heat and tour buses, then something indoor or performative after dark. The list below is ordered by how reliably it delivers for two people, not by price.

Paid set-pieces — the Batur sunrise trek, a private dinner in the rice fields, a couples spa treatment — are worth booking a day or two ahead in July, August and December. Free options carry most of the atmosphere: the Campuhan Ridge walk at dawn, the pura courtyards, and the evening dance stages.

Treat every figure here as a 2026 estimate and confirm on the day. Temple entries are small; trekking, private dining and spa packages are the line items that move a couple's daily budget most.

Opening hours in Bali shift with ceremonies. A temple can close to visitors at short notice for an odalan, and dance troupes sometimes cancel during the Galungan and Kuningan period. Ask your guesthouse the day before rather than relying on a printed schedule.

Ubud sits about 35–50 km from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) depending on the route; allow 1.5–2.5 hours by car in traffic. Most couples arrive by pre-booked hotel transfer or a metered taxi from the airport rank.

Inside Ubud, the centre is walkable but pavements are patchy and ride-hailing apps are restricted in parts of the centre, so plan on walking, a hotel shuttle or a driver you arrange the day before. For Batur and Tirta Empul, a private car with a driver for the morning is the usual arrangement.

Dress for temples before you arrive: shoulders and knees covered, sarong and sash tied at the waist. Many gates lend or rent them for a small fee, but bringing your own saves time.

Cash still matters. Small notes cover temple donations, dance tickets and parking. Carry a light rain shell from November to March, when afternoon storms are common, and keep an indoor backup such as a spa or a cooking class.

For quiet, go early. The Campuhan Ridge path and the terraces are close to empty before 08:00 and busy by mid-morning. Evenings are for performances rather than sightseeing, since most sites close before dark.

April to October is the dry season and the most reliable window for outdoor plans. May, June and September give you the same weather with fewer people. July, August and the Christmas–New Year period are the busiest and priciest.

The wet season, roughly November to March, still works for couples: mornings are often clear, rain arrives mid-afternoon and passes. Build the day around an early outing and an indoor afternoon. Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, closes the island for 24 hours — no travel and no lights — so do not schedule a flight or an outing on that date.
