The Southern Rift Valley is the Kenyan stretch of the Great Rift south of the Ewaso Ng'iro — the soda-lake chain, escarpment viewpoints and the parks on the Mombasa road, with Nairobi at its southern end. It is not one destination: most travellers run it as a loop out of Nairobi, sleeping in Naivasha or Nakuru and seeing Hell's Gate, Longonot and the lakes as short stops. Two nights is the usual minimum to make the drive worthwhile; more nights let you add Mount Suswa or Nyahururu — check what is open before you commit.

- Escarpment and Mau (Nyahururu, Mau)
- Cooler and wetter than the valley floor; morning mist is common in the wet months.
Kenya's drier windows run roughly December–March and June–October, but this region sits at altitude and can rain in any month — treat any month as a check. Clearer days give the best views and game visibility; flamingo numbers on the soda lakes swing with water level and are never guaranteed.
