Sleep in Nairobi for one or two nights, do the museum and giraffe mornings by car, and treat Wilson Airport as your gate to the parks.
Rules in force · 4
- Kenya ↗Check entry requirements and any electronic travel authorisation for your passport on the official Kenyan government portal before booking; rules have changed in recent years.
- Kenya ↗Book a travel-clinic visit several weeks ahead; ask about malaria prevention and check whether a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for your route, including transits.
- Kenya ↗Plastic carrier bags are banned; leave shop and duty-free plastic bags behind before you fly in.
- Kenya ↗Light aircraft to the parks have strict baggage limits, usually soft-sided bags only and a low total weight (often around 15 kg); confirm the limit with your operator and leave a hard case in Nairobi.
Nairobi is a base for arrival and departure, not a place to rush. Sights are close on the map but slow by road; the international airport and Wilson Airport (safari flights) are on opposite sides of the city. Keep one bed, do one cluster per half-day, and leave a buffer before any flight.
Where to sleep
Westlands for a first night; museums and giraffes by car.
Wildlife inside the city limits; a half-day by car.
Rift Valley lake; about 2 h each way by road.
Night sequences
- 2 nights
- Nairobi 2, then a morning safari flight from Wilson
- Do not book a safari flight for the morning after a late international landing.
