Two airports serve Seoul. Incheon (ICN) handles most long-haul flights and sits about 50 km west of the city centre. Gimpo (GMP) is much closer and mostly handles domestic and short-haul routes. Both connect to the city by the same AREX rail line, plus buses and taxis.

Trains: AREX from ICN and GMP
AREX is the airport rail link. From Incheon it runs to Seoul Station in about an hour on the all-stop service; the express version skips stops and is faster. From Gimpo the same line reaches Seoul Station in about 30 minutes. Trains run from early morning until around midnight, so a late landing can leave you with buses or a taxi.
At Seoul Station you can transfer to subway lines 1 and 4, the KTX, and other city lines. If your hotel is in Hongdae, get off at Hongik University Station instead of riding to the end. If you are heading to Gangnam, a bus or taxi may beat doubling back through Seoul Station.
Buy a T-money card at the airport and top it up; it covers AREX, the subway and city buses, and gives transfer discounts when you tap out.

Airport buses
Limousine buses leave both airports for major districts such as Myeongdong, Gangnam, Hongdae and Jamsil. They cost more than the train but drop you closer to hotels and take the bag handling out of your hands. Journey times stretch with traffic, especially on weekday mornings and evenings.
Several routes serve each district, so check which bus matches your accommodation before you buy a ticket. Tickets are sold at airport counters and kiosks near the exits; some routes accept T-money.
Taxis and late arrivals
A metered taxi from ICN to central Seoul commonly lands in the ₩60,000–100,000 range depending on your exact destination and traffic (2026 estimate). Deluxe (black) taxis cost about double. There is a night surcharge from 22:00 to 04:00, and tolls for the airport expressway are usually added to the fare.
Use the official taxi rank outside arrivals rather than accepting a ride from someone approaching you inside the terminal. Drivers may refuse very short fares at night. Kakao T and Uber both work in Seoul and avoid language problems at the kerb.
If you land after the last AREX train, your realistic choices are a taxi or a night bus (N routes). Night buses are cheap but slow and run limited routes.

Practical tips
Land before 22:00 and the train is the easy answer. Land later and plan for a taxi or night bus, or book a hotel near the airport for the first night.
If your first stop is Suwon, Ansan or Incheon itself, do not ride into central Seoul and back out — check the bus and rail options that serve those cities directly.
Buy or top up a T-money card at the airport before you leave the terminal. It saves queueing later and works on nearly every urban trip in the country.
Allow buffer time on the way back: AREX trains are frequent but fill up at peak hours, and ICN check-in queues are long in the morning.
