Money, cash and cards
The currency is the Central African CFA franc, pegged to the euro, so euro prices stay stable. Bring euros in cash: cards work at some hotels in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire and little beyond that. ATMs are found only in those two cities, with Visa the most reliable.
MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are widely used for everyday payments if you have a local number. Outside the cities, assume cash only.
How to keep the budget down
The single decision that controls your budget is whether you take a gorilla package. Skip it and a two-week trip can sit comfortably in the mid-range band. Take it and the same trip costs several thousand euros more, whatever you do about hotels and meals.
Beyond that: fly between Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire only when you need to, eat where locals eat, and use shared taxis in the cities. If the package is the point of the trip, book it first and build the rest of the budget around it.
