Go for one night only if you want the Adidas and Puma outlets; otherwise day-trip from Nuremberg or Erlangen and sleep there.
Herzogenaurach is a small Franconian town with an intact old town and no train station. Its draw is the Adidas and Puma headquarters outlets, plus the Schaeffler Group, which is the largest employer. Buses from Erlangen are the only public transport in; most travellers come by car or bike and stay one night at most.
