Aleppo is Syria's largest city, in the north near the Turkish border. Its Old City and medieval citadel are a UNESCO World Heritage site, but large parts of the historic center, including sections of the Great Mosque and the covered souks, were heavily damaged during the civil war (the city was contested between 2012 and 2016). Reconstruction is ongoing and access to different quarters varies. This listing is informational, not a recommendation to travel.
