Jackpot is a casino town of a few hundred residents sitting less than 2 km south of the Idaho line, built in 1954 after Idaho banned casino gaming. Everything worth doing is inside four casino buildings along US 93, so a single night covers it. Come for the gambling, the golf course in season, and the liquor store; do not come for scenery, food variety or nightlife beyond the slots.

Safety

The town itself is quiet and walkable; the real risk is the drive in. US 93 toward Twin Falls has a poor crash record, so travel in daylight and skip it in winter storms.
  • US 93 between Jackpot and Twin Falls, about 72 km (45 mi), has a bad crash record: avoid driving it after dark or in winter storms.
  • You must be 21 to be on a casino floor or to gamble, and it is enforced.
  • Non-US visitors: large gambling wins can face a 30% IRS withholding; ask the casino for the 1042-S form before you leave the cage.
  • Jackpot keeps Mountain Time in practice even though it is legally in the Pacific zone; Cactus Pete's show times are always Mountain.
  • Cell coverage and fuel are thin on the surrounding highways: fill up and download offline maps before you leave.
