Iksan is a rail junction in North Jeolla where Honam and Jeolla KTX lines meet, about 1 h 30 min from Seoul by train. Its draw is Baekje history: the Mireuksa temple site and the National Iksan Museum sit 12 km north of the centre, with the Wanggung-ri palace ruins and a jewelry complex further east. Sights are spread across farmland, buses are thin, and the city centre is a plain grid of markets and business hotels. Most travellers use Iksan as a one-night stop between Jeonju and Gunsan, or as a half-day rail break.

Getting around
Sights are spread out and local buses run few services, so taxis or a rental car do most of the work. A weekend and holiday city tour bus starts at Iksan Station (about ₩4,000 for adults; timetable in Korean). Taxis are metered and easy to flag in the centre; agree longer runs to Mireuksa or Wanggung-ri before you set off.
