Putnok
Skip Putnok as a base unless you want the Aggtelek caves cheaply: 1 night, or a 1-hour bus from Miskolc for the Gömör Museum and mansion.
Putnok is a small town of about 6,800 in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, 40 km from Miskolc between the Bükk Mountains and the Sajó river. It has a local history museum, a Classicist mansion and a gallery, but its real draw is the Aggtelek karst caves an hour away. Most travellers use it as a quiet, cheap stop or skip it for Miskolc.
