Base on the Hip Strip for 3–4 nights if you want beach and airport ease; skip MoBay as a sightseeing city — it is a beach-and-transfer hub.
Montego Bay is Jamaica's tourist capital and its busiest airport, MBJ. Most travellers use it as an arrival point and a beach base: Doctor's Cave Beach and the Gloucester Avenue strip on foot, Rose Hall and the parish sights by taxi or tour van. The city itself has little to walk to beyond the strip, so plan 3–4 nights, or 2 if you are moving on to Negril or Ocho Rios.

Walk the Gloucester Avenue strip; everything else is taxi, route taxi or tour van. Buses and route taxis leave from the transport station off Barnett Street. Agree the fare before you get in, and use hotel-arranged or marked taxis rather than unmarked cars.
