One night, or a leg-stretch, is the right call; the nearest real services, car rental and supermarkets are in Goondiwindi.

Watch out

Safety

A quiet highway village; the real risks are the road (random drug and alcohol testing, 110 km/h limit), summer heat and the lack of banks, taxis and rental cars. Violent crime is not the concern here.
  • Newell Highway is a drug and alcohol testing corridor: Boggabilla highway patrol runs random tests and vehicle searches. Do not exceed 110 km/h.
  • No banks and no ATM except the 24 h Coles Express fuel stop; bring cash or a card that works at the pump.
  • Queensland does not use daylight saving: from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, NSW times are one hour ahead of Goondiwindi times. Check coach and flight times against the right zone.
  • Fuel up before long stretches: the next 24 h fuel south is at the Coles Express, and Boomi has no petrol station at all.
  • Summer inland heat is the real hazard; carry water on any walk.
