Isla del Tigre
Go for 1–2 nights midweek: quiet island, cheap tuk-tuks, free camping at Amapala's park. Skip weekends and holidays, when Tegucigalpa crowds fill the few rooms.
Isla del Tigre is a single volcanic peak in the Gulf of Fonseca, reached by boat from Coyolito on the mainland. Amapala, the old Pacific port, is the main town; villages sit by the beaches around the 18 km coast road. It is a stopover between El Salvador and Nicaragua more than a destination, and it is busiest on weekends and holidays.

- Rainy season (roughly May–Oct) brings lengthy daily blackouts, usually before the afternoon downpour.
