Sankarankoil is a one-sight town in southern Tamil Nadu, centred on the Sankaranarayanan Temple where the deity is half Shiva, half Vishnu. The temple is the only reason to stop; the town itself has little else for a traveller. Most visitors come for a few hours on the way to Courtallam or Tenkasi.

Very safe; petty crime is rare. The main risk is the midday heat — carry water and a hat. Temple floors can be slippery when wet.
  • Temple hours: 5:30–12:00 and 16:30–20:30; plan around the midday closure.
