Sankarankoil
சங்கரன்கோவில்
Half a day: see the Sankaranarayanan Temple, then move on to Courtallam or Tenkasi. Not a base.
Sankarankoil is a one-sight town in southern Tamil Nadu, centred on the Sankaranarayanan Temple where the deity is half Shiva, half Vishnu. The temple is the only reason to stop; the town itself has little else for a traveller. Most visitors come for a few hours on the way to Courtallam or Tenkasi.
