• The border with Myanmar can close or tighten with little notice: check current status before you plan a crossing.
• Gem and jade shops are mostly wholesale and hard to judge; assume you cannot tell real from fake without research.
• Smoke from agricultural burning peaks around Mar–Apr and can cut visibility and air quality.
