Palmeiras
Use Palmeiras as the gateway to Chapada Diamantina National Park and Vale do Capão: 2–3 nights, with a 4×4 ride to the valley for hiking and waterfalls.
Palmeiras is a small town in Bahia's Central South region, the main access point for Chapada Diamantina National Park. Most visitors pass through on their way to Vale do Capão (Caeté-Açu), 22 km away, where the park's best hikes start — including Cachoeira da Fumaça, Brazil's tallest waterfall. The town itself has a few sights (Morro do Pai Inácio, Vale do Pati) but the real draw is the national park. Plan 2–3 nights to see the highlights.
