Baixa Grande
Skip unless you are trekking the Lençóis Maranhenses between Atins and Santo Amaro: a 30-min stop for a meal and a swim, not a destination.
Baixa Grande is a tiny oasis settlement of about 5 families, midway on the Lençóis Maranhenses trekking route between Atins and Santo Amaro. There are no shops, no cell coverage and no motorised transport for tourists. The reason to stop is a home-cooked meal and a swim in a pond, then continue walking.
