Buyeo was Sabi, the last capital of the Baekje Kingdom, and its UNESCO-listed ruins sit inside a small walkable town on the Geum River. There is no train station: you arrive by bus from Daejeon, Nonsan or Gongju. One night covers the fortress, the temple site, the museum and the royal tombs without rushing; two nights add Muryangsa or the Baekje Cultural Land theme park.

Getting around

The town is small and flat enough to walk: the bus terminal sits in the middle, and Busosanseong, Jeongnimsa and the museum are each 10–25 minutes on foot. Local buses and taxis reach the royal tombs (about 4 km east), Baekje Cultural Land and Muryangsa. Taxis are cheap but sparse outside the centre; ask your guesthouse to call one.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe for a small Korean town; the real issues are sparse English, few taxis after dark and slippery fortress paths in rain.
  • No train station: the nearest railhead is Nonsan, then a local bus of about 30 minutes.
  • The intercity bus terminal staff speak little English; write your destination in Korean.
  • Some sites close earlier in winter (often 17:00) than in spring and autumn.
  • Baekje Cultural Land and Seodong Park close on Mondays (check).
  • Heavy July–August rain can flood the riverside paths; check the forecast before a fortress walk.
