Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu is a small riverside municipality in La Vallée-du-Richelieu, on the west bank of the Richelieu River, facing Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu. It is a half-day or one-day stop: a heritage circuit of 42 sites, a cable ferry across the river, two signed bike loops, farm kiosks and a traditional-music festival in late June and early July. There is almost no hotel stock, so most visitors sleep in Beloeil, Chambly or Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu and drive in.

Getting around

A car is the practical way: sights, farms and the vineyard are spread along rue du Rivage (route 223) and the rangs, with no village bus service. The Handfield cable ferry crosses to Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu in about 5 minutes and saves the long detour to the Autoroute 20 or 30 bridges. Two signed bike loops start at the Maison de la culture Eulalie-Durocher; the longer one is 45 km and uses two ferries.

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are rural driving at dusk, winter ice on the river and unlit roads. 911 for anything urgent, 811 for health advice.
  • No train or bus serves the village: without a car you are dependent on taxis from Beloeil or McMasterville.
  • The ferry runs April to December, roughly 07:00–00:00, and is replaced by an ice bridge in winter — check the current season before planning a crossing.
  • Farm kiosks and U-pick are seasonal: several open mid-June to 1 September, then weekends only in September and October.
  • Restaurant and crèmerie hours are short and change with the season — check before driving out for dinner.
  • Rural roads have no lighting and deer and cyclists share them at dusk.
