Castara

Two nights in Castara: enough for the beaches, waterfall and village pace. A day-trip from Crown Point or Scarborough works if you drive, but the road is winding and taxis are scarce.

Castara is a quiet fishing village on Tobago's leeward coast with two beaches, a waterfall hike and forested hills. There are no big resorts or nightlife — the draw is slow days, snorkelling and sunset. Most visitors come for 2–3 nights as a break from Crown Point's busier strip.

Watch out

Safety

Castara is very safe for tourists; the main risks are the winding road at night, mosquitoes and strong currents at some beaches — ask locals before swimming far from shore.
  • Taxis and buses are very difficult to get in Castara: arrive with your own car or a driver arranged beforehand.
  • The road from Scarborough or Crown Point is narrow and winding; allow 40–60 minutes.
  • No ATM in the village: bring enough cash from Scarborough or Crown Point.
  • Mosquitoes are active at dusk; bring repellent.
