  • China ↗Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay with a foreign card before you fly. QR payment is the default in shops, taxis and many stalls, and some places refuse cash or a foreign card. Carry cash as a backup.
  • China ↗Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and many news sites are blocked. Use an eSIM with roaming (it routes through your home network) or install and test a VPN before you fly; VPN sites and app stores are hard to reach inside China, and only government-approved VPNs are officially permitted.

Anshun is a small city in western Guizhou whose draw is the karst scenery around it: Huangguoshu Falls, the Longgong cave system and old stone villages of the Bouyei and Ming-descended Tunpu communities. The city is a transport and sleep base, not a sight in itself. Two nights covers the falls and one cave; three lets you add a village and slow down.

City buses cost ¥1 and cover the centre; taxis flag from about ¥6. The east bus station is 10 km out (bus 16 or ¥25–30 taxi). For the falls and caves, use the frequent scenic buses from the east station or hire a car with a driver for the day.

Watch out

Safety

Anshun is a low-crime city and the main risks are practical: wet, slippery paths at the falls and in caves, summer crowds, and unlicensed drivers quoting high day rates — agree the price and route first.
  • Scenic-area tickets and internal shuttle buses are priced separately; budget for both.
  • Longgong cave tours are guided in Chinese only and can be very crowded in summer.
  • Some village guesthouses and restaurants close outside roughly April–September.
  • Book high-speed rail seats ahead in summer and around national holidays.
