Anshun is a small city in western Guizhou whose draw is the karst scenery around it: Huangguoshu Falls, the Longgong cave system and old stone villages of the Bouyei and Ming-descended Tunpu communities. The city is a transport and sleep base, not a sight in itself. Two nights covers the falls and one cave; three lets you add a village and slow down.

- Book high-speed rail seats ahead in summer and around national holidays.
Anshun is a low-crime city and the main risks are practical: wet, slippery paths at the falls and in caves, summer crowds, and unlicensed drivers quoting high day rates — agree the price and route first.
