Zsámbék
Go as a half-day from Budapest: 48 min by bus, Ft 560, for the ruined Premonstratensian church. Sleep in Budapest, not here.
Zsámbék is a small town in the Zsámbék Basin, about 30 km west of Budapest in Pest County. Its one real draw is the ruined Premonstratensian church and monastery, a 13th-century basilica left roofless since an earthquake in 1763. Two small museums and a Swabian farmhouse fill out a half day. There is no local public transport and almost nowhere to sleep, so this works as a bus day trip from Budapest, not a base.

- Museums run Mar 15–Oct 23 daily except Monday; Oct 24–Mar 14 they close earlier and the Swabian house opens only on the second weekend of the month.
- The Swabian Heritage Museum and the Firefighter Exhibition are appointment-only outside their posted days: call ahead.
- Buses back to Budapest thin out in the evening; check the last departure before you start the day.
- No local buses: plan walking or a taxi for the last stretch.
