Mihara三原
Stop for one night only if you want the island views from Ryuosan or Fudekageyama; otherwise pass through — Onomichi and Hiroshima do more with the same rail time.
Mihara is a small Seto Inland Sea city on the Sanyo and Kure lines, about 30 minutes from Hiroshima by Kodama Shinkansen. Its draw is the island chain seen from two low mountains, plus easy ferries to Sagi and Kosagi islands. The centre is walkable in 30 minutes and the food and bar strip south of the station is the real reason to sleep here.

Getting around
The inner city is walkable end to end in about 30 minutes. Bicycles rent near the tourist office at the station, ¥1,000–2,000 per day, return by 17:00. Taxis from the station cost at most about ¥1,000 within the centre. Local trains and buses reach the wider city; buses are infrequent inland, so check timetables before you commit.

Safety
- English menus and English signage are rare outside the main sights; have a translation app ready.
- Inland buses run a few times a day — a missed one can cost you hours.
- Ryuosan and Fudekageyama trails are loosely marked; the Jinmu copper mine paths need experience.
- Ferries to Okunoshima from Mihara and Sunami ports run weekends and holidays only; the daily service is from Tadano-umi.
