Mihara is a small Seto Inland Sea city on the Sanyo and Kure lines, about 30 minutes from Hiroshima by Kodama Shinkansen. Its draw is the island chain seen from two low mountains, plus easy ferries to Sagi and Kosagi islands. The centre is walkable in 30 minutes and the food and bar strip south of the station is the real reason to sleep here.
