SevilleSevilla

Give Seville 3 nights: Alcázar and cathedral on day 1, Santa Cruz and Triana on day 2, Córdoba or a slow flamenco night on day 3.

Seville is Andalusia's capital and Spain's fourth-largest city, with an old centre you can cross on foot in 30 minutes. The Alcázar, the cathedral and the Giralda carry the sightseeing; flamenco, tapas bars and the river carry the evenings. Most trips work at 3 nights, and the city is at its best in spring and autumn, not in the 40 °C-plus July and August.

Rules in force · 9Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Iberia ↗Plan meals on the Iberian clock: Spanish kitchens serve lunch from about 13:30–14:00 and dinner from 20:30–21:00; Portugal eats an hour or so earlier. Early evenings are for tapas or petiscos, not full meals.
  • Iberia ↗Inland Spain and Portugal (Seville, Córdoba, Madrid, the Alentejo) pass 40 °C in heatwaves from late June to August: sightsee before 11:00 and after 18:00, and keep July–August for the coasts and the green north.
  • Iberia ↗Andorra and Gibraltar have their own border and customs rules and are reached only through Spain (or France for Andorra); read their pages before adding them, especially if you hold a limited Schengen visa.
  • Spain ↗Spain is in the Schengen area. Check the entry rules for your passport on official sources; the EU's Entry/Exit System registers non-EU visitors at the first Schengen border, and further pre-travel authorisation rules are being introduced.
  • Spain ↗High-speed trains have airport-style baggage screening at the station and boarding gates that close a few minutes before departure: arrive early.
  • Spain ↗Carry your passport or ID: police may ask for it, and hotels must register every guest's document.
  • Spain ↗The Alhambra in Granada and the Sagrada Família in Barcelona sell timed tickets that sell out weeks ahead in season; book on the official sites before you fix your dates.

Getting around

Walk. The sights sit inside a compact old centre and the tram covers barely 2 km of it. City buses (Tussam) fill the gaps; the single fare is about €1.40, less with a rechargeable card. The metro does not reach the old town or the main sights. Taxis and Cabify, Uber and Bolt are easy to find.

Córdoba

go

Door to door: About 45 min each way plus station time

AVE or Avant high-speed train from Santa Justa

The Mosque–Cathedral is the reason to go; book a timed entry.

Itálica, Santiponce

go

Door to door: About 45–60 min

Bus from Plaza de Armas or a taxi, then walk

Roman amphitheatre and mosaics; go early, there is little shade.

Sierra Norte

overnight

Door to door: 1–1.5 h

Car or bus to the villages north of the city

Hiking country; a day trip wastes the drive.

Cádiz

go

Door to door: About 2 h

Train from Santa Justa, about 1 h 40 min

Long but doable; the old town and beach fill a day.

Granada

overnight

Door to door: About 3 h

Train or bus, 2 h 30 min–3 h

The Alhambra needs a timed ticket and half a day; sleep there.

Barrio Santa Cruz

Old Jewish quarter between the cathedral and the Alcázar; walk to everything, but the most touristy and the most expensive.

Centro / Alfalfa

Around Plaza Nueva, Sierpes and the Alfalfa squares; central, good tapas, 10–15 min on foot to the cathedral.

Triana

Across the river; calmer, cheaper, strong food and flamenco, 15–20 min walk to the cathedral over Isabel II bridge.

Alameda de Hércules

North of the centre; nightlife and local bars, 20 min walk to the cathedral.

Around Santa Justa station

Practical for early trains only; no old-town atmosphere.

Watch out

Safety

Seville is a safe city for its size; the real risks are summer heat, pickpockets in the cathedral queue and Santa Cruz, and car break-ins. Use 112 for any emergency.
  • Summer heat is the real risk: plan indoor sights for 13:00–17:00 in July and August.
  • Pickpockets work the cathedral queue, the Santa Cruz lanes and crowded buses.
  • Do not leave anything visible in a parked car; break-ins are common.
  • Buy Alcázar tickets only from the official site, in advance in high season.
  • Some bars in the most touristy lanes have no posted prices: ask the total before you order.
