Browning
Use Browning as a 1-night base for the Museum of the Plains Indian and Blackfeet Nation sights, not as a Glacier National Park base: park lodges and East Glacier are closer to the gates.
Browning is the headquarters town of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, on US-2 and US-89 about 13 miles east of Glacier National Park. It has around 1,000 residents but the nation has about 16,500 enrolled members, and the reservation covers over 3,000 square miles. Come for the museum, the bison reserve and the Blackfeet Trail drive, then move on. A car is required.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is effectively required: sights are spread across the reservation and the nearest park entrance is 13 miles west. Some central blocks are walkable or bikeable. Amtrak's Empire Builder stops at Browning station on Heart Butte Rd, an unstaffed seasonal stop (check the current timetable before planning around it).

Watch out
Safety
- Distances are long and cell coverage is patchy outside town: fill the tank in Browning or Cut Bank.
- Winter brings snow, ice and wind; many seasonal businesses close from late autumn.
- Reservation land is private and tribal: follow posted rules, ask before photographing people, and skip areas marked closed.
- Summer lodging is limited and fills for powwow week: book weeks ahead.
