Grimbergen is a town of 37,000 just north of Brussels, known for its abbey, its beer and a cluster of castles and watermills along the Maalbeek stream. There is no railway station, so you arrive by bus or car. Most visitors see the basilica, the abbey site and one mill in half a day, or use the green belt for a cycling loop. Sleep here only if you want the Thermae spa or a quiet alternative to central Brussels.

Getting around
No railway station. De Lijn buses run from Brussels, Vilvoorde and Kapelle-op-den-Bos. By car, take the Grimbergen exit off the R0 ring, then 2 km north to the centre. The centre is walkable; the mills and castles are 1–3 km apart, so a bike helps. There is no bike rental in town — rent in Vilvoorde, 4 km away, and ride over.
