- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.
Napanee is the county seat of Lennox & Addington, a town of about 17,000 on the Napanee River where the waterfall once powered saw and grist mills. The sights are a county museum, one Georgian house and a piano collection by appointment, so most travellers use it as a single night on the Highway 401 or VIA corridor, or as a stop on the Loyalist Parkway toward Prince Edward County.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the 401 (exits 579 and 582) and Highway 41 do the heavy lifting, and the Loyalist Parkway (33) runs west to the Glenora ferry. VIA Rail stops at the unmanned 1856 station on John Street, but the station is a shelter with no car hire. Two local taxis cover short hops; the downtown core itself is walkable in 15–20 min.

Day-trips, door to door
Day-trips
Prince Edward County (Sandbanks, wineries)
goDoor to door: About 45–60 min to Picton
Highway 33 west to the free Glenora ferry, then County Road 7
The ferry is free and runs year-round; Sandbanks fills on summer weekends, arrive early.
Belleville, Ontario
goDoor to door: About 30 min by car
Highway 401 west, or VIA Rail one stop
Bigger restaurant and hotel choice; useful if Napanee beds are full.
Kingston, Ontario
goDoor to door: About 30–40 min
Highway 401 east, or VIA Rail
Walled waterfront city with the best dining and museums in the region.
Addington Highlands (dark-sky preserve)
overnightDoor to door: About 1.5 h
Highway 41 north through Kaladar
Too far for a comfortable return day; the county library lends telescopes.

Chain hotels and two motels by exit 579; car-first, free parking, 5 min drive to downtown.
Downtown / Napanee River
B&Bs and the walkable core near the museum, Macpherson House and the waterfront pubs; few rooms, book ahead.
