Go to Al Ain for a long day trip, or one night, for its oasis, forts and Jebel Hafeet: it is inland, cooler at altitude and quiet, about 1.5 hours from Abu Dhabi or Dubai.
Al Ain is an inland oasis city in Abu Dhabi emirate, near the border with Oman. It has UNESCO-listed cultural sites, including forts, date-palm oases and Hafit tombs, and a mountain road up Jebel Hafeet. It is quieter and greener than the coastal cities. It fits a trip as a day of old sites in winter, or a night when you want the mountain views and a slower pace.
