Apex is a small ski village on a big hill, 35–45 min by road from Penticton in BC's Okanagan. One road in, one saloon, 67 marked runs and 1,112 skiable acres on two chairs, a T-bar and a magic carpet. Weekends bring the city crowd; midweek the lift lines are short. Winter is the only season that works — most on-hill services shut in summer.

Getting around

Road only. From Penticton take Green Mountain Road about 20 km and turn right at the Apex Guest Ranch (left if coming from Keremeos). Inside the village you walk or ski between the upper and lower parts; a car or snowmobile covers the rest. The Hedley Corkscrew Road is a summer-only shortcut — do not use it in winter without a serious 4x4.

Watch out

Safety

Ski-resort risk, not city risk: unmarked hazards and tree wells off-piste, fast snow on Green Mountain Road, and cold exposure if you get stuck. Ski with a partner, stay in bounds unless equipped, and check the road before driving down.
  • Winter tires or chains are effectively required on Green Mountain Road after a storm; check DriveBC before you climb.
  • The Hedley Corkscrew Road is tight switchbacks on cliffs — not a winter route.
  • Most on-hill facilities close in summer; treat Apex as a day trip from Penticton then.
  • Fishing at Nickel Plate Lake needs a valid BC freshwater licence; gear can be seized without one.
