Guajará-Mirim
Half a day to cross into Bolivia, or one night if you want the river and the railway museum; not a base for Rondônia.
Guajará-Mirim is a quiet border town on the Mamoré River, opposite Guayaramerín (Bolivia). It is the southern terminus of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway, and most travellers stop here to cross the river or see the railway museum. The town is walkable and low-key; one night is enough unless you are heading deeper into the Bolivian interior.
