Tervuren
Base in Brussels and ride tram 44 out for a half-day: the Africa Museum and Warande park fit in 3–4 hours. Sleep here only if you want the forest at dawn.
Tervuren is a small Flemish municipality on the south-west edge of the Sonian Forest, about 20 minutes by tram from Brussels. Its one big sight is the Royal Museum for Central Africa, in the former royal summer palace, with the Warande park and the Sonian Forest beech woods around it. Most visitors come for a half-day; a night here buys you quiet, not more sights.

Getting around
On foot. The centre, the Warande park and the museum are within 15 minutes of each other. Tram 44 from Brussels runs 3 times an hour at peak, less at weekends and late evenings. De Lijn buses 316 and 352 link Kraainem (about 15 min) and Leuven (about 35 min); buy the ticket from the driver, €3. Bus and tram are separate operators, so a transfer means a second ticket.

- Park tracks are dolomite and stay wet for days after rain: bring water-resistant shoes.
- Museum hours shorten outside summer and it closes 1 Jan, 1 May and 25 Dec.
