Wabamun
Go for one day on the lake, or sleep one night if you are fishing or sailing. Skip as a base: Edmonton is 40 min east and has the beds.
Wabamun is a village of about 650–700 people on the north shore of Lake Wabamun, 67 km west of Edmonton on Highway 16. It is the Edmonton region's main recreational lake: a provincial park, a boat launch and pier, sailing clubs, golf, and a summer cabin community. Most visitors come for a single day; anglers and sailors stay a night or two.

A car is the practical choice: the village is small but the park, golf courses and sailing clubs are 3–25 km apart and there is no local transit. Highway 16 exit 324 serves the village, exit 327 the park and Kapasiwin. Bring a bike if you are camping at the park.
