Pinswang is a 415-person village in the Ausserfern, the northern tip of Tyrol, sitting on the German border about 5 km from both Reutte and Füssen. There is no station, no shop and no ticket office: you come here for two inns, a baroque pilgrimage church and footpaths that reach King Ludwig's castles on foot. Treat it as a bed, not a sight list.

Getting around

On foot or by bike. A country road links Unterpinswang and Oberpinswang, and the Via Claudia Augusta runs north–south through the village. Cross the Lech on the Ulrichsbrücke to reach Musau; several paths lead to Füssen and on to the castles. A car helps for Reutte, the lakes and bad weather; buses are thin and mostly school-run.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe. The real risks are mountain weather, unmarked farm tracks after rain and the lack of a village shop or late bus: plan your last ride back before you set out.
  • No train station and no village shop: buy food and cash in Reutte or Füssen.
  • The border is open, but carry your passport or ID card — checks happen on the B179 and at the tunnel.
  • Mountain weather turns fast above the tree line; the Säuling and the ridge paths need real shoes and a forecast check.
  • Many inns and huts close in November and again in spring; confirm your bed and dinner before you commit.
  • Card payment is not universal in small Tyrolean inns: carry euros.
